Becoming an Outdoors Woman

Becoming an Outdoors-Woman, or BOW, offers interactive workshops for adult women with an interest in learning outdoor skills such as hunting, fishing, target shooting, kayaking and more!

BOW Weekend

October 6-8, 2023 at Fort Robinson State Park
BOW Weekend Workshop is our cornerstone event, held annually on the first weekend in October. This three-day workshop includes sessions taught by expert instructors in a supportive environment conducive to learning, making friends and having fun! Participants complete four sessions of their choosing; session workshop topics include hunting, shooting, fishing, ecological education and more.

Registration will open on February 21 at 9 a.m. for first time participants, and any repeat participants who bring a new participants. The repeat participant must register on the same day as their invited new participant, and list each other as roommates. Registration is taken on a first-come, first served basis. All other repeat participants may begin registering on March 31, however, there is no guarantee seats will be available on that date. Complete this form to be added to the wait list.  We will contact wait list participants as cancellation occurs.  Note that we may have cancellations from now through mid-September.

BOW Weekend scholarship

We are offering a limited amount of partial scholarships valued at $125 for select Nebraska resident BOW attendees!
Preference will be given to first time participants with interests in learning outdoor skills (such as hunting, fishing and shooting sports) and the potential to impact others using these new skills.

Beyond BOW

Beyond BOW workshops provide the next step on the path in becoming a confident, independent outdoors person Beyond BOW offers single-topic programs teaching advanced skills outdoors. Workshops may take place in half day, occur over a weekend, or take place over several evenings.

2023 workshops

Summer Shooting Series – Archery

May 3, 10 & 17, 2023 at 6 p.m. CT

Learn the basics of archery during this three-part training workshop is open to ladies over age 14 who are new to the BOW archery series program.

Cost: $25 total

Summer Shooting Series – Handgun

May 24, 31 & June 7, 2023 at 6 p.m. CT

Learn the basics of .22 handgun shooting during this three-part training workshop is open to ladies over age 18 who are new to the BOW handgun series program.

Cost: $40 total

Summer Shooting Series – Shotgun

Learn the basics of shotgun shooting during this three-part training workshop is open to ladies over age 18 who are new to the BOW shotgun series program.

Cost: $40 total

Women’s only hunter education courses

The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission offers women’s only hunter education courses, designed give women the chance to learn the basics of hunter safety and gain firsthand firearm and archery experience in a fun, safe environment. All courses will be led by women who are experienced hunters and certified volunteer hunter education instructors.
