Rock Creek Station state parks temporarily closed

The Rock Creek Station State Historical Park and the adjacent state recreation area are closed temporarily until further notice because of a wildfire in the area.

Emergency management crews are monitoring for hot spots and flare-ups on the nearly 2,600 acres of land near Fairbury in southeast Nebraska. Rock Glen Wildlife Management Area, just south of the state historical park, was 80% consumed in the wildfire.

The historical park’s buildings were not damaged, though the fire came within feet of the structures. Crews had dowsed them in fire-resistant foam prior to the fire reaching the historical park grounds.

The state recreation area, which offers camping and other recreation, also will remain closed until further notice.
